My Message for the Moon

50 young poets have their work bound for the Moon.

Fifty young writers, representing 10 nationalities from around the world, including 20 from the Sunshine Coast, have been selected as finalists that will see their poems archived on the Moon.

Extending the impact work from our short films The Art Side of the Moon and The Oyster Gardener, we ran a Haiku competition called “My Message for the Moon” inviting young writers aged 5 to 17 to write a haiku with the chance to be selected into the Lunar Codex and have their words sent to the Moon in a million-year archive. The poets wrote of storm-lit hills and sleeping lorikeets, of tea gone cold and home fires glowing. Little love letters to life on Earth, capturing the everyday moments and experiences that make life extraordinary.

The Lunar Codex is the largest collection of contemporary art, being preserved on the Moon. Encoded on to technology built to survive a million years, the poems will fly to the Moon aboard Codex Hinatea, launching in 2028.

Encoded onto technology designed to last a million years, these fifty haikus are bound for the Moon aboard the Codex Hinatea mission, launching in 2028.

This collection of work will be joining the Lunar Codex's billion-year archive of what it meant to have been alive here, now, safeguarded for many generations to come. Each finalist receives a certificate of achievement and an official Lunar Codex mission patch.
